Overview
The Spam and Open Relay Blocking System (SORBS) New blocklist is a Domain Name System-based Blocklist (DNSBL) that includes newly discovered sources of spam.
Most legitimate marketers will not appear on this blocklist, since it is focused on sources and domains set up specifically for spamming.
- Listings occur at the single IP level.
- The impact on deliverability is low.
Reasons for getting listed
Your IP address may be listed if you are sending or relaying spam from servers:
- With dynamically allocated IP addresses
- That have been hacked or hijacked
- With Trojan virus infections
How to get off this blocklist
IP addresses remain on this list until no spam has been detected from it for 48 hours. After 48 hours, the IP address is removed from this list and placed on the SORBS Spam blocklist.
This blocklist accepts manual requests to remove IP addresses. First you need to register for an account with SORBS. Then you can look up IP addresses and netblocks in the SORBS database and open support tickets.
If you are eligible, you can manage your own networks and listings, and even remove your own IP addresses.
Tips for staying off this blocklist
- Make sure your servers are properly configured and have no open relays or open proxies
- Conduct ongoing security checks
- Ensure you are not sending email over dynamically assigned IP addresses
