QUESTION:
What is ParentFixer and where can I get more details on how it works?
ANSWER:
ParentFixer is a free native AppExchange app by Validity that ensures, when a parent account is merged with another account, all children accounts are re-parented to the selected master account in the merge.
- ParentFixer retains the Parent-Child hierarchy typically lost in Account merges
- The Account ID for the chosen master account in the merge will become (or remain) the Parent Account ID for all Child Accounts.
- With ParentFixer, if you delete a “Parent” record (select a parent as the non-master record in a merge) the hierarchy IS NOT deleted.
- ParentFixer works in the background and you’ll never experience an issue with children losing their Parent Account ID again.
- ParentFixer works with any merge done using the salesforce.com merge call including:
- merges done directly in the Salesforce user interface
- merges done via DupeBlocker
- merges executed in DemandTools (assuming “Use Salesforce Merge” is checked)
- any other application that uses salesforce.com's merge code
- Installing ParentFixer is fast and easy.
- Accept the defaults and click "Continue" or "Next" on all the installation screens.
- No configuration required!
- Once installed, ParentFixer will begin working anytime Accounts are merged.
- To "deactivate" ParentFixer, simply uninstall.
NOTE: Although Parent Fixer will prevent orphaned children, it is still best practice to always keep a Parent Account as the master record in a merge whenever possible leaving the existing hierarchy intact.
