Disposable email addresses are addresses that have no long-term value to the owner and are easily discarded. They are often used in submission and sign-up forms when the owner is:
- Skeptical of the trustworthiness of the website
- Concerned about receiving spam
Different disposable addresses are used for each submission or sign-up form. For example, if a subscriber signed up for newsletter X using a disposable address, then she would probably not use that email address elsewhere.
Disposable email addresses can be created at mailbox providers such as Yahoo! and Gmail. Other companies, such as Mailinator and 10 Minute Mail, are in business to provide disposable email addresses.
