A Request for Comments (RFC) is a formal document developed by a committee of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and subsequently reviewed by interested parties. Memos in the RFC document series contain technical and organizational notes about the Internet. They cover many aspects of computer networking and email, including protocols, procedures, programs, and concepts.
Some RFCs are informational in nature. For others, the final version of the RFC becomes an Internet standard and no further comments or changes are permitted.
