Deliverability best practices and troubleshooting support
- Use a recognizable brand name in the friendly from to ensure subscribers recognize you as the sender. Subscribers are more likely to mark a message as spam for senders they do not recognize.
- Set expectations with subscribers about the frequency of email they will receive, your sending address, and what your email looks like.
- Follow the instructions on the Earthlink postmaster site to sign up with the Earthlink complaint feedback loop. Suppress all subscribers that complain. Earthlink uses complaint rates as a major factor in filtering decisions.
- Configure all IPs with valid reverse DNS (PTR) records.
- Monitor Eartlink's SMTP response codes when encountering delivery issues. The SMTP response codes provide additional information to help you troubleshoot.
- Implement a prominent unsubscribe link in all email with a one-click unsubscribe process and immediately honor all unsubscribe requests.
- Have a list hygiene strategy in place to remove or suppress unknown and unengaged users from your email list.
- Look up and delist all IPs and domains from the following blocklists, including any third party domains. Be sure to fix the cause of any blocklistings prior to submitting a delisting request or listings will recur.
- Bypass Earthlink's spam filter by advising all Earthlink subscribers to add your sending address to their address book.
- Do not use a dynamic IP address. Use a dedicated or shared IP when sending to Earthlink.
- Ensure that your email complies with the Request for Comment (RFC) 2821 and 2822 specification protocols.
