Improve the IP warm up process with Microsoft by asking for Preemptive Accommodation. Following this process transfers your existing IPs' sending reputation to your new IPs.
What is the process?
- Open a support request with Microsoft
- Fill out the support request with the required information, but instead of including an error message, state the following:
- "We are notifying Microsoft that we are switching or opening up new IPs and want to ensure we will not get caught in your reputation system. Please prepare preemptive accommodation for IP warm up."
- Include a list of your new IPs.
- Fill out the support request with the required information, but instead of including an error message, state the following:
- Wait for both an automated response, acknowledging receipt of your support request and a human response from a Microsoft support representative.
- Respond to the support representative with the following subject line and information.
- "Preemptive Accommodations" or "Preemptive Accommodation for IP Warm Up"
- Include a list of your old IPs and the email volume you plan on sending to Microsoft subscribers per day and per hour on the new IPs.
Which Microsoft mailboxes does this work for?
This process is for sending to Outlook, Hotmail, and MSN domains.
When should I open a support ticket with Microsoft?
Open a support ticket as soon as you identify your new IP or IP ranges. It may take time for Microsoft to process your request, so do not wait until the day or week before your warm up is scheduled to begin. Microsoft does not specify how long the process takes, so do it as early as possible.
What are realistic expectations for following this process?
- Your current IPs' sending reputation is transferred to the new IPs. Senders with good sending reputation benefit the most while senders with poor sending reputation do not see benefits. Microsoft does not disclose specific sending reputation requirements to see benefits.
- Following this process does not reset your sending reputation or provide you with a better sending reputation.
- You still need to warm up your IPs with Microsoft and follow sending best practices.
- It does not guarantee inbox placement.
