Overview
The SPFBL blocklist identifies potential sources of spam using reputation data collected from a customer and contributor network. It is primarily used in third-party spam filter software.
- Listings occur at the IP and domain level.
- The impact on deliverability is low.
Reasons for getting listed
Your IP address may be listed if:
- A high number of recipients within their customer and contributor network marked your email as spam.
- You sent email from a home or dynamic IP address.
- You are hiding your identity using a Whois privacy service.
- Your IP does not have a reverse DNS (PTR) record.
- Your sending system is not compliant with RFC 5321.
- You included a domain in your content used in spam or phishing messages.
How to get off this blocklist
This blocklist accepts both free and paid delisting requests. Check your IP status and follow the delisting process if your IP or domain is listed.
- Identify the cause of the listing and use the free delisting process.
- A paid delisting request is not recommended.
- Use an email address in the delisting process where ARF formatted complaint reports are processed. A complaint report is a recipient that marked your email as spam and should be suppressed from all future mailings.
Tips for staying off this blocklist
- Ensure your sending system is compliant with RFC 5321.
- Use opt-in consent and send relevant email to reduce subscriber complaints.
- Confirm that your IP has FCrDNS with a valid hostname.
- Do not send bulk marketing email over a home or dynamically assigned IP address.
- Do not hide your identity using a Whois privacy service.
- Make sure your servers are properly configured and have no open relays or open proxies.
- Conduct ongoing security checks to prevent unknown third-parties from sending spam.
- If using a third-party image hosting service, pre-check domains prior to their use to ensure they are not listed.
- Avoid using URL shorteners such as bit.ly as they are often used by spammers to hide the destination domain.
- Proactively check the status for domains used in your content, especially new domains, even if the domain is from a trusted source.
