Any sender can self-assert BIMI by completing DMARC enforcement, uploading an SVG image, and publishing a BIMI text record in DNS. Learn how to implement BIMI on your emails.
However, self-assertion may not guarantee your BIMI logo shows up. Mailbox providers can set their own rules about which BIMI logos qualify to be displayed. Some mailbox providers, such as Gmail, are opting to show BIMI logos only for senders with a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC).

During the vetting process for a VMC, a Mark Verifying Authority will confirm:
- Business entity and registration
- Domain ownership
- Trademark logo and registration
- Identity verification through video ID and an in-person notary meeting
In a self-asserted BIMI record, the a= attribute (hosting location of the VMC or assertion record) is empty. Once VMC is obtained, the location where the VMC is hosted can be added in URL format to the a= attribute in your BIMI record. This step shows mailbox providers your BIMI logo, or mark, has been verified by a Mark Verifying Authority.
