QUESTION:
How do I generate a dumplog for a failed login?
ANSWER:
To generate a log file with details regarding login/license verification issues launch DemandTools with an extra parameter “dumplog” after the DemandTools.exe. To do this, a NEW shortcut for DemandTools will need to be created:
- Right-Click on the desktop and click “New” -> “Shortcut”
- Select “Browse” and browse out to program files (or program files (X86)) in the C drive -> DemandTools Folder.
- Select DemandTool.exe
- When selected it will populate as ("C:\Program Files (x86)\DemandTools\DemandTools.exe”).
- Click Next -> Name the Shortcut (e.g. DT Special) and click Finish
- Right click on the new shortcut
- Select properties
- In the“Target” text box add a space AFTER "C:\Program Files (x86)\DemandTools\DemandTools.exe" and then add “dumplog” including the quotes
- The Target text box will look like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\DemandTools\DemandTools.exe" "dumplog"
- Now USE THIS shortcut to launch DemandTools and attempt to login.
- When the login error message appears click OK
- Go to mydocs\DemandToolsData\Logfiles and there should be a file called “DumpDataLog_{today’s date}.txt”.
- Provide this file to your IT department as it will pinpoint where the breakdown is occurring.
