QUESTION:
I have configured DupeBlocker in my sandbox and have completed testing. Can I copy the changes made in sandbox to production or do I have to manually reconfigure once I have installed DupeBlocker in my production org?
ANSWER:
The answer will depend on the version of DupeBlocker you are running:
****DupeBlocker 3****
This can be done very easily in DupeBlocker 3 using the Export/Import Settings options in the DupeBlocker Settings Tab. Migrating scenarios from one Salesforce instance to another is a no-brainer in this release! Simply export the scenarios and settings from one instance and re-import to the other instance. No need to rebuild DupeBlocker from the ground up in production after testing in a sandbox. Also great for users that do not have full sandboxes (meta data only NO actual data copied) that lose all customizations to scenarios and settings when refreshing the sandbox.
More information on this option can be found here.
****DupeBlocker 2****
In DupeBlocker 2 you cannot simply copy what you have done in Sandbox to production in DupeBlocker 2. We HIGHLY recommend manually re-configuring in production.
It is possible to export and re-import (using the Data Loader or DemandTools MassEffect) the scenario, rule, filter and auto-merge/auto-convert settings tables, but this is error-prone (need to make sure all the ID's are updated properly), so we do not recommend it. Technical Support will not be provided to help "fix" a bad attempt to copy data using this method. Identifying and resolving any problems has proven to take much longer than simply starting over and manually re-configuring.
The CRMfusionDBR101_Settings__c table (i.e. Account Name Filtering list, etc.) CANNOT be exported and reimported/updated, this will need to be re-created manually on the new org.
NOTE: This also applies to copying from sandbox to sandbox and from one production instance to another production instance. Only FULL COPY sandboxes will have a complete mirror image of production. Meta data sandboxes do NOT copy production data, so they will have the DupeBlocker application installed, but all the scenarios/rules/filters and settings will need to be manually updated as this is "Table" data.
